Are you looking for contra dancing classes in Richmond, VA? Contra dance classes are put on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month at Lewis Ginter Recreational Association, by The Traditional American Dance And Music Society!
What is Contra Dancing?
Contra dancing is usually done with a caller and live music. Couples stand in long lines across from their partner, thus the word ‘contra’. The caller walks everyone through each dance before the music begins. Two couples dance through several figures together, and at the end of the set each couple ends up dancing with a new couple up or down the line. This is why contra dancing is such a great way to meet new people.
How to join our classes?
Free beginners workshops are offered an hour before most dances, and it costs just $9 to attend the dance ($6 if you’re a student or a member of TADAMS). Membership is $40 a year and that goes to support our organization. To join, simply fill out our membership form by clicking here.
